What is a playgroup?

A Playgroup is a group of parents/carers and preschool children who meet together regularly to provide play experiences and socialisation for the children, and friendship and support for parents.
It is a safe and friendly place where children learn, take turns and share while participating in creative & messy play.

What happens at playgroup?

How your group operates is up to your group members. A group leader needs to be elected to
co-ordinate your group and ensure that you are represented at each committee meeting.
Generally groups have two parents rostered each week to organise an activity or experience for the children and maybe supply a snack (milk and a plate) for the adults. Each member brings a piece of fruit or healthy snack for a shared morning / afternoon tea for the children or their own lunch box. There is a storeroom of toys for children of all ages and many art and craft supplies for you to use creatively. All members help to pack away the equipment and vacuum the room, clean the cups, plates, tables, chairs, etc. Your group leader needs to co-ordinate the smooth running of your group!

How much does playgroup cost?

Term Fees - $45.00 per family per term is paid to the group leader by the last day of term to secure your place for the following term. Early bird discount of $20 available if yearly fees are paid by Friday the 4th February 2010 (total = $160 + the $25 Playgroup Insurance fee)

Annual Insurance Fee – the compulsory membership of Playgroup Victoria is $25.00 per family ($15.00 for concession). The fee is per calendar year and must be paid to the group leader at the first session.  If one family is uninsured in a group then the entire group is uninsured.

Playgroup Victoria:
Playgroup Victoria Membership insures immediate family members for accidents at playgroup and travelling to and from sessions.  Carers and Nannies must take out separate insurance.  Playgroup Victoria can be contacted on 1800 171 882.

How do I pay my fees?

To secure your place in a session at playgroup for the beginning of the year Term 1 fees are paid at the AGM of the previous year. (Or take advantage of the early bird rate and pay before Friday 5th Feb for the entire year). It also strongly recommended that Playgroup Victoria Insurance Fees also be paid at the AGM of the previous year. Subsequent term fees are then collected at the end of each term for the following term by the group leader where a receipt is issued. Payment and receipt are then placed in the payment box for the treasurer to collect.

You can pay in any of the following ways:

Ø  At Playgroup : Pay cash/cheque directly to your Group Leader. (correct money please)

What is my role as a playgroup member?

1 If you are on duty, arrive 5 minutes before playgroup, collect the keys from the foyer, unlock the storeroom & kitchen & set up ready for the session.
2 Sign your child/children in on the attendance sheet at the beginning of each session.
3 Supervise your child/children at all times (and others if asked) both inside & outside as they are your responsibility.
4 Encourage your child/children to be involved in activities set at playgroup. (Even the messy ones!)
5 Help to keep the playgroup room, storage cupboard, kitchen and yard clean and tidy after each session.
6 Enjoy yourself and help your child to have fun!

What do I have to bring to playgroup?

Each playgroup session organises their own morning/lunch/afternoon tea for parents and children.  Most groups have a shared healthy snack time or bring their own lunch box for the children. Parents can take turns in providing morning/afternoon tea for the adults, if the group chooses to do so.
